It is a great honor to have been invited to show a selection of my jewels during this exhibition which reveal Torun’s masterpieces. Vivianna Torun Bulöw was a swedish jeweler, pioneer of modernism in jewelry. She came in the fifties in Biot, a beautiful village of the French Riviera.

Independent and modern, she trained during a decade a group of local jewels to her aesthetic : a scultpural jewel that breaks the classical jewelry codes, introducing non precious material such as the pebbles from the beach and focusing on silver instead of gold. Her designs promove a simplicity inspired by the shapes of the nature and the human body. Amongst her clients were Billie Holiday or Brigitte Bardot. Picasso, whom she met while searching for pebbles at the beach, admired her work.

My uncle Denis Essayie was one of Torun’s students. Fascinated by this woman and the beauty of her work, he became a jeweler. And as far as I can remember, his workshop was a fascination to me. The notion of time disappeared as I was watching him shaping rings and bracelets with simplicity and intelligence.

These inspired and passionate persons infused in me the wish to create. They gave me the love for pure and sculptural shapes, a taste for traditional and manual work, and a spirit of independence.
